Washing recommendations – The environmentally friendly way

  • Washing at 30C * not only saves energy, it also saves your home textiles.
  • By lowering the washing temperature to 30C, you can save around 40% energy per wash.
  • When washing at 60C, 85% of the energy is used to heat the water and only 15% to rotate the drum.
  • Many washing powders and liquid detergents are designed to work in low energy 30C washes, as they dissolve quickly, start to work fast and contain special cleaning ingredients that aid stain removal.
  • Instead of using a mechanical tumble dryer, hang to air-dry in order to save electricity and cut carbon dioxide emissions.
    Care instructions
  • Tip from IKEA that is valid pretty much everywhere: The IKEA care label indicates the highest temperature that textiles can be washed in. By washing at lower temperatures you will save energy and your product will last longer.
  • Heavily soiled articles should be washed at the highest temperature allowed.
  • Wash badly stained articles separately at the maximum temperatures of their
care labels, otherwise you could waste energy by washing them again.
  • Wash stained articles as soon as possible. It is best is to wash them before the stain has dried.
  • Think of the climate and load the machine full but do not overload.
  • By not washing single articles in the machine you save water, washing
    powder and energy.
  • Use only recommended amount of washing powder, not more or less. Read the information on the package of the washing powder.
  • Sort items by color temperature and fabric.
  • Wash dark colors separately.
    * Please note that if you are allergic to e.g dust mite allergens, pet dander or pollen, you need to wash your textiles in a temperature of 60C in order to eliminate them.
