Malta Festival Poznan - Poland's leading performing arts festival - reveals it's music programme : Kraftwerk, Atoms for Peace, Cat Power, Diamond Version, Scott Gibbons and many more.
First of the two exceptional concerts featuring iconic figures of modern music is Kraftwerk’s first open-air 3D concert - an adaptation of the acclaimed retrospective of this legendary German group that is currently touring the world. It has been shown at MoMA, Tate Modern and Sydney Opera House. In Poznań, it will be performed in the amazing post-industrial settings of the Old Gasworks. The festival will close with the concert of Atoms for Peace, the new band formed by Radiohead’s frontman Thom Yorke and his friends: Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco. It will be preceded by the gigs by the excellent American singer, multi-intstrumentalist and composer Chan Marshall aka Cat Power and the MOBO nominated Kenyan/British group. Owiny Sigoma Band.
A range of free, edgy concerts will take place throughout the festival, at the festival club. The program includes a unique audio-visual project by Sctott Gibbons– the electronic and electro-acoustic music composer and Romeo Castellucci the renowned Italian performing and visual artist and Malta Festival’s curator. Alva Noto and Byetone (Raster Noton’s co-founders) will present their minimalistic post-techno project Diamond Version and the UK indie rock group British Sea Power will play the material from their new album Machineries of Joy.There will also be a number of very interesting Polish bands.
At daytime, Malta Festival presents an extensive programme of events from the field of preforming arts. At least two performances are a must for music fans:Mika Vainio, a former member of the minimal electronic duo Pan Sonic, has composed the music for Cindy van Acker’s dance performance Diffraction, and The Residents, who are the unpredictable masters of pop-culture irony, have written the track-sound for Needcomapany’s oneiric and surrealist show Mush-Room. Expect also spectacular musical installations from André and Michel Décosterd a.k.a. Cod.Act (a 10-meter diameter pendulum, which the artists call Cycloïd-E) as well as the Peter Ablinger with his Deus Cantando installation that originated from the desire to transfer any recording – music, noise, human speech – to acoustic instruments.
