8 Reasons to Get into Local Design

The first weekend of August, 5–6/8, there will be the holiday Dyzajn Market event in Vaclav Havel square in Prague. It will be the largest open-air market and exhibition of original works by local jewellery, toy, accessory and fashion designers. There is always an entertaining programme for children, as well as grown-ups, a creative workshop area for children and lots of carefully selected local and street food and beverages.
 
200 Designers in One Spot
Only at Dyzajn Market you can see the creations of 200 local designers, artists, creators and authors. But despite these large numbers, the event is always selective. Most items you buy from Czech designers can be considered souvenirs with the added value of being useful.
 
Free Entry
While this is a cultural and commercial event, you can still attend for free.
 
Accompanying Programme
With zero worries and at zero cost, you can listen to various bands, singer-songwriters and DJs or see some theatre. You don’t have to shop, just hang around. “You don’t get such wonderful, original and creative atmosphere anywhere but at Dyzajn Market. This is what makes it unique for us,” say our visitors and designers.
 
Slow Fashion, Sustainable Fashion, Upcycling
You’ve heard these words a gazillion times – slow fashion, sustainable fashion, upcycling... What do they mean? Many of our designers at Dyzajn Market offer sustainable fashion. Their products do not become waste when they stop being useful, they can serve as material for new creations. Creating from “waste” is called upcycling and again, many of our participants enjoy working that way. And finally, by forgetting about shopping malls and buying five T-shirts on discount, and instead getting one item from a local creator, you present a responsible approach to what you wear, and you know who made it – that’s what we call slow fashion.
 
Dreams Come True
What else does slow fashion bring us? Most of our sellers not only design their pieces, they also make them with their own hands. If you wear a dress or a jewel made by the very same person you bought it from, you can discover a new dimension of the thing you bought. You can see that the things that used to feel ordinary are actually very unique. This is mainly because they are not “just things”, they are dreams come true. Not many people manage to make a living out of their own creations.
